Shooter Certification Cards – New 2024 NRA UK ruling

All competitors who plan to shoot at Bisley, must be in possesion of a current Shooter Certification Card. The G.B.F.C.A appreciate that many foreign shooting clubs and International organisations don’t acknowledge these Certs, but they are now nessesary here in the UK. Therefore, all foreign shooters must include a cover letter with their Visitor Permit application. This must be in the form of a simple letter which includes your full name and address, your firearms details and a brief description of your shooting experience to date, any previous trips to Bisley or UK ranges + any shooting accolades achieved throughout your shooting career. The NRA will then provide you with a temporary Shooter Certification Card for the full duration of our competition. This will be sent to you with your Visitor Permits or available for collection at the NRA Range Office when you arrive.

Zero Range (HME) and Practise Targets

The zero range will be open for all those wishing to zero their rifles above 4500 Joules muzzle energy from 0730-1600hrs each day. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE WITH A RIFLE ABOVE 4500 JOULES MUZZLE ENERGY UNLESS YOU ZERO FIRST!

Please contact the NRA directly on 01483 797777 if you want to book any practise targets.

Please note:- If you plan to arrive at Bisley ahead of our competition and would like to book your own targets to practise, you and all your shooters who intend to shoot MUST BE NRA MEMBERS.

Only a few of our committee live local to Bisley and therefore they won’t be there until Monday 2nd September. Shooters who arent members of the NRA will not be able to book or run targets ahead of our event unless a member of the GBFCA Committee is present in person to oversee and act as an RCO. It is very unlikely that anyone will be available to do this and therefore, if you intend to arrive early, we advise joining the NRA UK.

Important changes to the way we’re taking payments

All entries must be purchased online from our GBFCA website and they can be found in the “shop” section. No entries for Individuals or Teams will be accepted without payment first.

Any online bookings / payments for the European Championships will be refunded, less a handling fee to cover bank payment charges, if cancelled before Sunday 21st July 2024.

Additional information that may be useful to our travelling competitors and guests

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS & BIG HOTELS (close to Bisley)

I’ve had a good look about and asked several Bisley based guys for opinions on hotels and attractions which may be of interest to our travelling international guests.

Firstly – Bisley will be quite limiting on accomodation in 2024 and although you may miss out on the Bisley experience being off camp, there are so many local hotels that you’re never that far away and it would be sound advice to secure somewhere first (at no expence) and cancel if something were to come available on camp or even somewhere better close by at a later date.

When looking for hotels close to Bisley that can accommodate large numbers, with good parking and out the way of nosey eyes, the following options jumped out with great reviews:-

1/ Gorse Hill Hotel – Woking – GU22 0QF – Av £75-85pn (2.8miles from Bisley)

2/ MacDonald Frimley Hall Hotel – Camberley – GU15 2BG – Av £74pn (3.2miles from Bisley)

3/ Village Hotel Fairnborough – Fairnborough – GU14 7BF – Av £64pm (8.0 miles from Bisley)

4/ Double Tree by Hilton Woking – Woking – GU21 8EW – Av £85pn (5 miles from Bisley)

Regarding tourist attractions and a day out exploring. Here’s what I could find that you can look up online and explore further for yourselves:-

If your staying in or around Bisley shooting ground and wanted to visit somewhere local (Includes postcodes for a Sat Nav):-

1/ Brooklands Museum of Motors and Aviation – KT13 0SL

2/ Brookwood Military Cemetry – GU24 0JD

3/ The Lightbox Museum of Art, Sculptures & Inventions – GU21 4AA

4/ RHS Garden Wisley – GU23 6QB

5/ Guildford Castle – GU1 3SX

On the other hand, if you fancied a bit of a drive and other options for a good day trip. Here are some links to 4x  awesome museums (if you’re into this stuff):-

https://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/london/

https://www.iwm.org.uk/visits/iwm-london

Finaly – The World is your oyster if you considered an adventure by rail. It takes a bit of head scratching to get to grips with Southern rail and the London underground but you can literaly go anywhere in London within 30mins on the train or a 1hr drive (which I wouldn’t advise). Been there, done that, never again!

However, If you fancy going on an adventure and you’re staying around Bisley shooting ground, you can drive to Brookwood railway Station on Connaught Road, Woking – GU24 0PB (5min drive / 1.6miles)

There’s a multi story car park on site that costs £7.50 – £9.80 per day depending on weekday or weekends.

Trains are every 10 minutes and you can travel direct from Brookwood Station to London Waterloo (on the South Western Line) for £12-30 depending on seats, time of day etc.

Now there’s plenty to see outside of Waterloo station but if you’re prepared to go a little further, you can get off the train at London Waterloo and jump immediately onto the (Northern Line) from London Waterloo and catch the train to Tower Hill £4.50 and a further 18 minutes journey. You’ll now be in the heart of tourist heaven.

1/ Tower of London

2/ White Tower

3/ Royal Armories

4/ The Jewel House (£ for tours)

5/ The Bloody Tower (£ for tours)

6/ Tower Bridge (£ for tours)

A short train journey from Tower Hill

7/ Buckingham Palace

8/ Madame Tussauds Wax Museum

9/ The London Eye

10/ The Lodon West End for theatre, live shows

11/ Big Ben
